Bystander

I sit and watch the girls run the mile.

As I sit there I grin and I smile.

I think of how great the feeling of running must be.

Wind in one's hair, running with all one's might.

Watching that finish line with a greedy stare, and

hoping one's time will be the fastest of the night.

I wonder if I would have a chance,

or if the girls would pass me with no second glance.

What merriment it must be to run,

and to feel free.

I hope one day that will be me.
